Solana-based prediction market World launched its standalone platform with more than 1 million users on the waitlist.

World, a Solana-based prediction market, has launched its standalone platform at world.xyz with more than 1 million users on its waitlist. The launch expands World beyond its initial July rollout inside the Phantom wallet, where the platform has featured more than 150,000 markets across sports, crypto, politics, finance, economics, and culture.

World now gives users access to thousands of markets spanning sports, crypto, politics, finance, economics, culture, commodities, and weather. Its initial standalone lineup includes every NFL regular-season game, 7 soccer leagues, Formula 1, the 2026 US midterms and the Federal Reserve's next interest-rate decision.

As is the norm with prediction markets, World represents each market through binary "yes" and "no" contracts. Users settle contracts in $CASH, Phantom's dollar-backed stablecoin. In addition to the launch of its own website, World still retains its integrations with Phantom and MoonPay’s PayBox. World keeps trading and liquidity onchain on Solana, positioning the platform within the network's expanding collection of trading and financial applications.

"World is the next in line, bringing an entirely new asset class to Solana and keeping 100% of liquidity onchain," - Ramzy Ali, head of DeFi at the Solana Foundation.

Did World Launch an “Airdrop”?

For days, the platform had surreptitiously hinted at a surprise “airdrop” tied to the launch.

In reality, the hinted “airdrop” had nothing to do with the prediction market. Instead, it was about Solana’s 5-stage rent reduction proposal, which went live on mainnet last week, allowing users to reclaim excess $SOL that was previously locked up. A rumor spread on social media that World would distribute an airdrop to users it followed on X, generating quite a buzz for its launch. The platform eventually clarified that it was a “hype marketing experiment” and that there was no surprise airdrop.

However, at launch, the platform ran a “Trade and Earn” campaign that rewarded new users for linking their X accounts and trading events.

In a move reminiscent of the launch of Paybox by MoonPay, users reported earning up to $500 in rewards through the campaign.

A few hours after launch, the platform has temporarily taken down the website “out of precaution”, citing an “overload” of traffic and promising to resume the campaign when the website goes live once again.

World Overload

Chainlink Handles Market Resolution

World uses Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) to provide market data and coordinate automated resolutions.

The infrastructure allows World to resolve markets when an underlying event ends, such as when a sports game finishes or a stock market closes. The approach removes the need for human panels or token-holder votes to determine outcomes.

World and Chainlink argue that automated resolution can reduce manual intervention and lengthy dispute periods associated with older oracle systems. Faster resolution could also allow traders to move capital into new markets more quickly.

"World's rapid growth and 1 million-user waitlist reflect the massive demand for next-generation prediction markets on Solana." - Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs.

Can Solana Eat A Piece of the Prediction Market Pie?

The launch of World.xyz did not mark Solana’s first foray into prediction markets. Major milestones such as Kalshi bringing tokenized versions of its contracts to Solana, Polymarket accepting $SOL deposits, and the launch of Jupiter Forecast had already whetted Solana users' appetites. World’s claim to fame is the speed of resolution of events using Chainlink data.

World first emerged publicly in July as a prediction market available directly through Phantom. Its initial markets included FIFA World Cup matches and crypto price predictions. The standalone launch marks the next stage of the platform’s rollout, giving Solana users more prediction market venues as platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket continue to dominate the sector.

The launch comes as prediction markets continue to attract significant trading activity. According to Artemis data, prediction markets recorded over $14.6 billion in spot trading volume last week.

Fully onchain markets will no doubt have an eye on such grand numbers and work to divert some of that action as Solana solidifies its position as the “everything exchange.”
