GPT-5.6 and Codex Enter the Consulting Room

IBM announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI on August 13, 2026, to embed OpenAI models and products into IBM Consulting's AI delivery platform, targeting enterprise deployments across financial services, government, telecommunications, and retail.

The partnership integrates OpenAI frontier models, including GPT-5.6, as well as products such as Codex and @ChatGPT Work, into IBM Consulting Advantage, @IBM's platform for delivering consulting services. @IBM will launch a dedicated @OpenAI Practice staffed by thousands of consultants and engineers holding expert-level certifications under the OpenAI Partner Network. The move places @IBM within OpenAI's Elite partner tier.

The collaboration targets three core areas: transforming legacy business processes into AI-ready workflows, accelerating application modernization and software development using Codex to support developers and engineering teams, and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities.

Cybersecurity Work Expands Under Daybreak

On the security front, @IBM and @OpenAI will deepen a relationship begun in June, when @IBM joined the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, bringing frontier AI into security operations to help enterprises counter machine-speed threats. Approved partners under Daybreak can use OpenAI's models for vulnerability discovery and validation, penetration testing, red teaming, incident response, and remediation.

The broader announcement is part of OpenAI's push to expand its enterprise footprint through large consulting and technology partners, a strategy it has also pursued with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services. Neither company disclosed financial terms, and @IBM cautioned that forward-looking statements represent goals and objectives rather than firm commitments.
